To Prevent Illegal Fishing, the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Revokes 368 Fisheries Business Licenses

The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) revoked 368 Fishing Business Licenses (SIUP) for vessels that were no longer operational and had not been renewed for more than two years, as well as SIUPs for vessels that had not been operational for more than two years since issuance. This step aims to prevent illegal fishing.

Through the Directorate General of Capture Fisheries, the KKP revoked 137 SIUPs with an allocation of 463 vessels for vessels that were no longer operational or had not been renewed for more than two years. For information, these SIUPs were originally intended for foreign-made vessels (ex-foreign) which are now prohibited from operating. The KKP also revoked 231 SIUPs with an allocation of 240 vessels for vessels that had not been operational for more than two years since the SIUP was issued.

As is known, under the command of Minister Susi Pujiastuti, the KKP has taken a very firm stance against illegal fishing, which was previously rampant in Indonesian waters. A total of 488 illegal fishing vessels were sunk by the KKP between October 2014 and August 2018.
