Bank Indonesia (BI) predicts that corporate demand for bank loans will generally slow down in the coming months.

"The financing needs for the next 3 months (July 2022) are projected to slow compared to the previous month," BI wrote in its report on the *Survey of Bank Financing Supply and Demand*, Friday (May 19, 2022).

According to the BI survey, this slowdown in credit demand comes mainly from the information and communication, agriculture, and trade sectors.

A majority, or 31.8%, of the surveyed corporations reported that their credit needs slowed due to weak demand from trading partners.

Furthermore, 18.2% of corporate respondents remain pessimistic about increased consumer demand, and 13.6% are still experiencing investment plan delays.

Another 9.1% of corporate respondents reported that their credit needs slowed due to changes in regulations for obtaining financing support.

The majority, or 62.5%, of corporate respondents will still rely on internal financing (retained earnings) until July 2022.

However, some sectors are experiencing increased demand for bank credit.

"There are several sectors that still experience financing needs, including mining, real estate, and transportation and warehousing," BI added.

According to BI, these sectors require bank credit to support operational activities and to pay obligations whose deadlines cannot be extended or rolled over.
