The death toll from the earthquake in Cianjur Regency, West Java, continues to rise. According to data from the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), the natural disaster has claimed 268 lives.
"122 bodies have been identified," said BNPB Head Suharyanto, as reported by *Katadata.co.id* on Tuesday (22/11/2022).
Furthermore, Suharyanto stated that 151 people are still missing. "(The missing victims) will be investigated; it's possible that the missing victims are included in the 268 unidentified fatalities," he said.
In addition, 1,083 people were reported injured, and 58,362 were forced to evacuate.
The Cianjur earthquake, measuring 5.6 magnitude, resulted in 6,570 houses severely damaged, 2,071 moderately damaged, and 12,641 slightly damaged. The government has pledged to assist in repairing these houses through various financing schemes.
This earthquake disaster impacted 12 sub-districts in Cianjur Regency: Cianjur, Karang Tengah, Warung Kondang, Cugenang, Cilaku, Cibeber, Sukaresmi, Bojongpicung, Cikalong Kulon, Sukaluyu, Pacet, and Gekbrong.
