In early 2024, Ipsos Global compiled several ways households can change their behavior to reduce global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions or their carbon footprint.

Ipsos asked each respondent to select at least three actions considered to have the greatest impact on reducing greenhouse gases.

The results show that purchasing renewable energy-based products was considered the most impactful option, chosen by 38% of respondents. This is a slight decrease from 39% in 2023 but an increase from 31% in 2022.

Recycling was the second most popular option, chosen by 34%. Third was reducing packaging, selected by 25% of respondents.

Energy efficiency efforts, such as using more energy-efficient cooking appliances and using clean fuel or renewable energy, were chosen by 22% of respondents.

A significant number of respondents also chose using public transportation (21%).

Other impactful efforts included buying fewer or durable goods (19%); home renovations for efficiency (19%); producing their own food (17%); not using a car (17%); fuel-efficient driving, such as driving slower (13%).

Additionally, there was vegan eating (8%); not keeping pets (5%); and having smaller living spaces or co-housing (4%).

This *Earth Day 2024* survey involved 24,290 adult respondents aged 18-75, interviewed online from January 26 to February 9, 2024. The sample was spread across 33 countries.
