Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted again this morning, with ash reaching a height of approximately 100 meters.

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at 5:24 AM WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 11 times.

According to eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column height reached 100 meters above the peak (1,684 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be white to gray with low to moderate intensity towards the north and northeast. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 22 millimeters and a duration of 72 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcanic activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level II (Alert). Observations of seismic activity on May 4, 2024, from 00:00 to 23:59 WITA showed 4 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 8.8-37 millimeters and durations of 97-254 seconds.

Then, there were 2 harmonic tremors with an amplitude of 7.4 millimeters and a duration of 21-26 seconds, and 2 low-frequency earthquakes with amplitudes of 7.4-14.8 millimeters and durations of 19 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to carry out any activities within a 2-kilometer radius of the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki, and a sectoral 3-kilometer radius in the North-Northeast direction and a 5-kilometer radius in the Northeast sector.

During 2024, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 623 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (207 times), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 86 times.
