A 4.4 magnitude (M) earthquake struck Pidie Jaya Regency. The earthquake's epicenter was inland. "The earthquake's epicenter was located 28 km southwest of Pidie Jaya Regency, and this earthquake was felt and should be relayed to the public," wrote the BMKG (Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysical Agency) on its official website, January 8, 2024.

The earthquake occurred at 01:21:11. It was located at a depth of 6.0 kilometers and did not have the potential to trigger a tsunami. The earthquake's coordinates were 4.85°N (North Latitude) and 96.07°E (East Longitude).
