Ministry of Environment and Forestry: Number of Hotspots in Indonesia Reaches 111 in the Last 24 Hours (Friday, January 5, 2024)

Based on the forest and land fire monitoring system SiPongi of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), the last 24-hour monitoring shows 111 hotspots detected in Indonesia. This number is down by 17 points compared to the previous period.

This data is the result of satellite imagery from Terra/Aqua, SNPP, and NOAA accessed on Friday (5/1/2024) at 08.55 WIB. Of the 111 hotspots detected, 1 has a high confidence level, 100 are medium scale, and 10 are low scale.

The confidence level of hotspots is divided into 3 scales. The low scale ranges from 0-29, the medium scale from 30-79, and the high scale from 80-100. The higher the confidence level of a hotspot, the higher the likelihood of a forest and land fire in that area.

The highest number of detected hotspots was in Central Sulawesi with 27 points. North Maluku is second with 21 hotspots. East Kalimantan is third with 15 hotspots.

Ten hotspots were detected in Southeast Sulawesi, followed by East Nusa Tenggara with 9 hotspots, while Papua and Central Java each have 5 and 4 detected hotspots respectively.

A hotspot is a coordinate point of an area with a higher surface temperature than its surroundings, and not the number of forest and land fire incidents.

However, a large number of hotspots clustered in one area indicates the occurrence of forest and land fires. This means that hotspot data from remote sensing satellites remains the most effective method for monitoring forest and land fires over large areas.
