Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again Tonight (Saturday, January 20, 2024)

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at 00:20 WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 23 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, no visual eruption was observed. The eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki was still ongoing at the time of this report.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level IV (Alert). Seismic observations on January 20, 2024, from 18:00 to 23:59 WITA showed 11 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 37-47.3 millimeters and durations of 24-428 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 15 rockfall quakes with amplitudes of 14.8-37 mm and durations of 62-142 seconds, and 1 harmonic tremor with an amplitude of 7.4 millimeters and a duration of 192 seconds.

PVMBG urges the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists to refrain from any activity within a 5-kilometer radius of the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and a sectoral 6-kilometer radius to the North and Northeast.

During 2024, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 94 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara has experienced the most eruptions with 46 eruptions.
