Public fuel stations (SPBU) have increased fuel prices in line with the increase in global crude oil prices to over US$100 per barrel. With the increase in crude oil prices, SPBU entrepreneurs also raised fuel prices starting in early March 2021 to avoid losses.
Pertamina's SPBU sells Pertamax (Research Octane Number/RON 92) at Rp9,000 per liter. The price of Pertamax is the cheapest in the RON 92 class compared to fuel prices at other SPBUs.
Mamit Setiawan, executive director of Energy Watch, suggested that Pertamina raise the price of Pertamax because its economic price has reached Rp14,256 per liter. Pertamina will continue to lose money if there is no price adjustment for Pertamax.
"Throughout 2021 alone, the difference between the selling price of Pertamax and its economic price reached Rp2,000 to Rp2,500 per liter," Mamit told *Katadata.co.id* on Wednesday (23/3/2022).
At Vivo SPBU, Revvo (92) is sold at Rp11,900 per liter. Therefore, the difference is Rp2,900 per liter compared to the price of Pertamax, which is priced at Rp9,000 per liter.
At BP-AKR SPBU, BP (92) is sold at Rp12,900 per liter. This means that the price of BP (92) is Rp3,500 per liter more expensive than Pertamina's Pertamax.
Similarly, at Shell SPBU, the price of gasoline comparable to Pertamax, namely V-Power (92), is sold to the public at Rp12,990 per liter. This price is the most expensive compared to similar fuels at other SPBUs. This price is also Rp3,990 per liter more expensive than Pertamax.
In the 2022 State Budget (APBN), the government allocated Rp77.5 trillion for fuel and 3 kg LPG subsidies. The breakdown is Rp11.3 trillion for certain types of fuel and Rp66.3 trillion for 3 kg LPG cylinders. However, Pertamax is not a type of fuel that receives subsidies.
