Despite an energy transition scenario, Indonesia's coal needs are projected to increase over the next decade.

This projection is recorded in the Electricity Supply Business Plan (RUPTL) 2025-2034 document, published by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources in June 2025.

According to the document, the Indonesian government currently has a scenario called Accelerated Renewable Energy Development (ARED).
