PT Pertamina (Persero)'s revenue from the sale of fuel oil (BBM) products has steadily increased in recent years.
According to their financial reports, domestic Pertalite sales in 2021 reached US$9.82 billion. This figure then rose to US$15.82 billion in 2023.
Sales of Pertamax, Pertamax Plus, and Pertadex also increased during the 2021-2023 period, as shown in the graph. However, they did not provide a detailed breakdown of sales figures for these products.
Currently, a subsidiary of PT Pertamina (Persero) is embroiled in an alleged corruption case related to oil management, specifically concerning Pertamax and Pertalite fuel.
According to the Attorney General's Office, this corruption occurred between 2018 and 2023, and is estimated to have caused state losses of hundreds of trillions of rupiah.
"These illegal acts have resulted in state financial losses of approximately Rp193.7 trillion," said Abdul Qohar, Director of Investigation at the Attorney General's Office for Special Criminal Acts, as reported by *Tempo.co* on Monday (February 24, 2025).
Based on the chronology compiled by *Tempo.co*, this corruption case involves at least seven suspects from the board of directors of PT Pertamina (Persero)'s subsidiary and private parties, with initials RS, KPI, SDS, YK, AP, MKAR, and DW.
The Attorney General's Office stated that the suspects conspired to reduce refinery production, forcing PT Pertamina (Persero)'s subsidiary to import BBM products. The suspects then procured these products in violation of regulations.
"In the procurement of refinery products by PT Pertamina Patra Niaga, suspect RS purchased RON 92 (Pertamax), when in fact they only purchased RON 90 (Pertalite) or lower, then blended it in storage or depots to become RON 92, and this is not permitted," said Abdul Qohar.
The Attorney General's Office also mentioned irregularities in the process of appointing purchasing intermediaries or brokers.
"Suspects RS, SDS, and AP illegally won contracts for crude oil and refinery product brokers," said Abdul Qohar (February 24, 2025).
In response, the President Director of PT Pertamina (Persero) issued an apology.
"I, Simon Aloysius Mantiri, as President Director of PT Pertamina (Persero), offer my sincerest apologies to all Indonesian people for the events that have occurred in recent days," said Simon at a press conference in Jakarta on Monday (March 3, 2025).
"We at Pertamina are committed to improving ourselves. We have formed a crisis center team to evaluate the entire business process, especially from an operational aspect," he said.
