The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) released data showing that the open unemployment rate (TPT) in South Nias Regency reached 3.48% in 2023. This figure decreased by 0.21% compared to December 2022, which was recorded at 3.69%. Compared to December 2021, it decreased by 0.43%.
The open unemployment rate (TPT) over the past five years reached its highest point in 2020 at 4.15% and its lowest in 2019 at 2.25%.
Compared to other regencies/cities, the open unemployment rate in this regency/city ranks 309th nationally. The national average open unemployment rate in 2023 was 4.3%.
The decrease in the open unemployment rate (TPT) is reflected in the number of employed people and the labor force published by BPS this year. The labor force in South Nias Regency has shown an upward trend over the past 16 years. A different condition was observed in the four years after COVID; the labor force remained on an upward trend. In 2021, the labor force was recorded at 157,000 workers, then increased by 48,873 workers from the previous year to 220,050 workers in 2023.
Regarding the number of employed people, the number of workers in South Nias Regency has increased over the past three years. Historically, 164,860 workers were recorded in 2022, increasing to 212,380 in 2023 and 216,240 in 2024.
The decrease in the open unemployment rate (TPT) in South Nias Regency is not directly related to the economic growth in this region, which also continued to increase in 2023. The economy in this region in 2023 was recorded at 3.65 percent. Previously, in 2022, economic growth in this regency/city was recorded at 3.08 percent.
