2022 Data: Unemployment in Berau Regency 5.02%

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) released data showing that the open unemployment rate (OUR) in Berau Regency reached 4.95% in 2023. This figure decreased by 0.07% compared to December 2022, which was recorded at 5.02%. Meanwhile, compared to December 2021, the figure decreased by 0.87%.

The open unemployment rate (OUR) over the past five years reached its highest point in 2014 at 10.05% and its lowest point in 2019 at 4.95%.

Compared to other regencies/cities, the open unemployment rate (OUR) in this regency/city ranks 161st nationally. The national average open unemployment rate (OUR) in 2023 was 4.6%.

The reduction in the open unemployment rate (OUR) this year can be seen from the condition of the number of the workforce and the number of employed people. The number of the workforce in Berau Regency has shown an upward trend over the past 15 years. A different condition is seen in the four years after COVID; the number of the workforce is in an upward trend. In 2021, the number of the workforce was recorded at 112,610 workers, and in 2023, it increased to 129,560 workers.

As for the number of employed people, the number of workers in Berau Regency has shown an upward trend over the past 14 years. In 2021, the number of workers was recorded at 106,050 workers, and then the number increased by 14,991 workers to 123,150 workers in 2023.

The decrease in the open unemployment rate (OUR) in Berau Regency is not directly related to the plummeting economic growth in 2022. The economy in this region in 2022 was recorded at 3.95 percent. Previously, in 2021, economic growth in this regency/city was recorded at 5.36 percent.
