Indonesia's Wave of Strikes Continues Through July 2025

Data from the Indonesian Ministry of Manpower (Kemnaker) shows 13 cases of labor strikes in Indonesia between January and July 2025. These cases involved a total of 3,234 workers.

This accumulated figure is lower than the same period last year, which recorded 157 strike cases involving 12,683 workers.

Up to July 2025, DKI Jakarta had the highest number of labor strikes, with 1,850 workers involved.

This was followed by West Java (500 workers), Riau (230 workers), Central Java (205 workers), Riau Islands (200 workers), North Kalimantan (200 workers), and East Java (49 workers).

It should be noted that this data does not represent the total number of workers involved in strikes across Indonesia. This data is based only on cases reported to Kemnaker.

Furthermore, the President of the Indonesian Workers' Federation (FSPI), Said Iqbal, called for a national strike if the government and the House of Representatives (DPR) fail to address workers' welfare.

"Workers' average salary is Rp5 million, and many in the regions still earn only Rp3 million. Look at the DPR members' salaries; they earn Rp100 million a month," Said stated in his speech during a workers' demonstration in front of the DPR building in Jakarta, as reported by *Kompas.com* on Thursday, August 28, 2025.

During the workers' protest, they presented several demands related to improving workers' welfare. These include a minimum wage increase of 8.5%-10.5% in 2026, the abolition of the outsourcing system, and a demand to halt mass layoffs.
