Number and Distribution of UMKM Workforce in Indonesia, 2024

According to data from the Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), approximately 30.18 million MSMEs were registered in Indonesia as of December 31, 2024.

However, this figure does not include MSMEs from the agricultural, government, self-consumed services, and international body sectors.

All registered MSMEs by the end of 2024 employed approximately 45.26 million people.

The largest national employment absorption came from micro businesses, with the following details:

• Micro businesses: 44,289,995 people (97.85% of total registered MSME workforce in Indonesia)
• Small businesses: 570,048 people (1.26%)
• Medium businesses: 403,305 people (0.89%)

When broken down by region, the most significant MSME workforce is located on the island of Java. The details are as follows:

Java Island

• Micro businesses: 25,214,736 people
• Small businesses: 283,851 people
• Medium businesses: 277,459 people
• Total: 25,776,046 people (56.95% of the total registered MSME workforce in Indonesia)

Sumatra Island

• Micro businesses: 9,248,442 people
• Small businesses: 136,356 people
• Medium businesses: 54,722 people
• Total: 9,439,520 people (20.85% of the total registered MSME workforce in Indonesia)

Sulawesi Island

• Micro businesses: 3,917,813 people
• Small businesses: 65,110 people
• Medium businesses: 27,776 people
• Total: 4,010,699 people (8.86% of the total registered MSME workforce in Indonesia)

Bali-Nusa Tenggara Islands

• Micro businesses: 2,715,189 people
• Small businesses: 26,867 people
• Medium businesses: 15,050 people
• Total: 2,757,106 people (6.09% of the total registered MSME workforce in Indonesia)

Kalimantan Island

• Micro businesses: 2,272,209 people
• Small businesses: 45,529 people
• Medium businesses: 22,525 people
• Total: 2,340,263 people (5.17% of the total registered MSME workforce in Indonesia)

Maluku-Papua Islands

• Micro businesses: 921,606 people
• Small businesses: 12,335 people
• Medium businesses: 5,773 people
