The number of certified teachers is less than 50%.

The Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemdikbud) notes that the number of certified teachers in Indonesia has not yet reached 50%. Certification is a measure in determining professional eligibility.

The highest percentage of certified teachers is in the junior high school (SMP) level at 48.44%. The next highest percentage is in the elementary school (SD) level at 45.77%. Meanwhile, the lowest percentage is in the vocational high school (SMK) level at only 28.49%.

Teacher certification is a mandate of Law Number 14 of 2005 concerning Teachers and Lecturers, because teacher quality can be assessed through certification. Teacher certification aims to determine the eligibility of teachers in carrying out their duties as learning agents. Furthermore, it aims to improve the process and quality of education outcomes.
