According to a report by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), there were 3.06 million teachers across Indonesia in the 2024/2025 academic year. This number increased by approximately 29 thousand teachers, or 0.97%, from the previous academic year.

In the 2024/2025 academic year, the highest student-teacher ratio was found at the Senior High School (SMA) level, which was 20. This means one teacher at an SMA is responsible for 20 students.

Furthermore, the student-teacher ratio at Vocational High Schools (SMK) was 15; Primary Schools (SD) 15; and Junior High Schools (SMP) had the lowest at 14.

Government Regulation Number 74 of 2008 concerning Teachers, Article 17, states that at the Primary School (SD), Junior High School (SMP), and Senior High School (SMA) levels, ideally one teacher is responsible for 20 students. Meanwhile, at the Vocational High School (SMK) level, ideally one teacher teaches 15 students.
