Saiful Mujani Research and Consulting (SMRC) conducted a survey on public perception of the campaign promises of the 2024 presidential and vice-presidential candidates.
In this survey, respondents were given a choice of three campaign promises from each candidate pair. However, respondents were not told who proposed each program.
The results showed that the "one poor family, one graduate" program belonging to the Ganjar-Mahfud pair was the most chosen by respondents, at 48%.
"'The program that excels in the eyes of the public is one poor family, one graduate, regardless of who offered it,' said SMRC founder Saiful Mujani in a presentation of the survey on his YouTube channel, Thursday (11/1/2024)."
Next, the pregnant mother allowance program promised by the Anies-Muhaimin pair was chosen by 32% of respondents.
Meanwhile, the free lunch and milk program for schoolchildren initiated by the Prabowo-Gibran pair was only chosen by 20% of respondents.
"'For the public, free lunch is not very important. If I were Prabowo, I would have crossed out that program,' said Saiful."
Nevertheless, Saiful assessed that these programs have not yet significantly influenced the electability of the presidential and vice-presidential candidates, as only a small number of respondents knew their promises.
"Debates alone are not enough. Massive advertising for these programs might be necessary," he said.
SMRC noted that only 17% of the total respondents knew that the "one poor family, one graduate" program belonged to Ganjar-Mahfud.
Then only 16% knew about the pregnant mother allowance program belonging to Anies-Muhaimin, and 25% knew about the free lunch and milk program belonging to Prabowo-Gibran.
This national SMRC survey involved 4,540 respondents selected using stratified multistage random sampling.
Data collection was conducted from November 29 to December 8, 2023, through face-to-face interviews. The survey has a margin of error of approximately 2% and a 95% confidence level.
