Pertalite (RON 90) sales volume has been quite high over the past eight years.
Data from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM)'s publication, *Energy & Economic Statistics of Indonesia 2022*, shows that sales volume in 2015 was only 379,900 kiloliters (kl). Domestic sales skyrocketed to 5.8 million kl in 2016, just one year later.
In 2017, sales volume reached 14.4 million kl. After this year, domestic sales consistently remained above 10 million kl.
However, domestic sales did decline by 1.3 million kl, from 19.41 million kl in 2021 to 18.14 million kl in 2020. This decrease is attributed to mobility restrictions during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Over eight years, the highest domestic sales volume was recorded in 2022, at 29.6 million kl. Despite these high sales figures, Pertamina plans to replace this fuel with a higher-octane fuel (above 91) in 2024.
This decision is claimed to be in line with the Regulation of the Minister of Environment and Forestry Number 20 of 2017 concerning Emission Standards for Exhaust Gases of New Motor Vehicles of Categories M, N, and O. This regulation mandates that vehicles produced since October 2018 no longer use gasoline with an octane rating below 91.

Pertalite will remain available until 2024
According to *Katadata*, the Ministry of ESDM stated that Pertalite fuel will remain available and will not be discontinued next year.
"No, Pertalite fuel will not be discontinued," said Arifin when met by the media at the ESDM office on Friday (1/9/2023).
Arifin responded to Pertamina's plan to stop distributing Pertalite and replace it with a new fuel called Pertamax Green 92. Pertamax 92 is a mixture of Pertalite with 7% bioethanol (E7).
"So, Pertalite sales will not be discontinued; we are upgrading Pertalite to Pertamax Green," he said.
Currently, Pertalite is the most widely used fuel by the public due to its relatively low price of Rp10,000 per liter.
