Samarinda City's 2023 Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) at current prices reached Rp89.29 trillion. This represents an 8.62% increase compared to the previous year's Rp83.35 trillion.
Compared to the COVID-19 pandemic year of 2020, the region's economic growth is significantly higher. At the end of 2020, post-COVID, growth was recorded at a decrease of 0.99%.
According to BPS (Statistics Indonesia) publications, with a total population of 856,360, the GRDP per capita in the region is recorded at Rp104.97 million/capita/year. Nationally, this ranks 69th.
Of the 17 sectors driving the region's economic activity, the construction sector is the leading contributor.
The construction sector ranks first, contributing the largest share to the GRDP in 2023, reaching Rp20.63 trillion (Note: The original text contains a typo, "jutajuta" should be "triliun"). This sector grew by 15.57%.
Following this is the wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles sector, which grew by 8.2% to Rp15.05 trillion (Note: The original text contains a typo, "jutajuta" should be "triliun"). Finally, rounding out the top five sectors contributing to Samarinda City's GRDP is the financial and insurance services sector, valued at Rp7.33 trillion (Note: The original text contains a typo, "jutajuta" should be "triliun"). According to BPS, this sector grew by 14.12% over the past year from its previous achievement of Rp6.28 trillion (Note: The original text contains a typo, "jutajuta" should be "triliun").

In terms of distribution, the main sector contributing the largest growth to Samarinda City's GRDP is the construction sector, with a contribution of 20.53%. Other sectors in the top five include wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, mining and quarrying, financial and insurance services, and transportation and warehousing.
The sectors with the smallest distribution are Health and Social Services, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Business Services, Electricity and Gas Supply, and Water Supply, Waste Management, Waste and Recycling.
