Of the 17 sectors driving the region's economy, the wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles sector is the leading contributor.
In 2023, the wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles sector in Tarakan City recorded a value of Rp12.71 trillion. This is the highest among the 17 sectors. This sector grew by 7.55% compared to the previous year's figure of Rp11.37 trillion.
Following this, the construction sector grew by 9.55% to Rp7.99 trillion, and the transportation and warehousing sector grew by 4.61% to Rp7.85 trillion.
The final sector contributing to the top five is the manufacturing industry with a GRDP of Rp5.5 trillion. This sector recorded a growth of 2.13% compared to the previous year's figure of Rp5.24 trillion.
