Many Indonesian small and medium enterprises (SMEs) believe that adopting sustainability can impact their businesses. This is evident in the UOB Business Outlook Study 2025 survey.

55% of SME respondents acknowledged that adopting sustainability is a way to attract investors. The same proportion of respondents also chose sustainability to improve their company's reputation or branding.

Furthermore, 41% believe that this scheme facilitates collaboration with multinational companies that are increasingly setting sustainability goals.

Then, 40% of SME respondents assessed that sustainability can provide a competitive advantage. A significant number of customers choose or even request companies to switch to and adopt sustainable schemes, amounting to 37%.

Generally, UOB Indonesia calculates that 45% of Indonesian SMEs had begun implementing sustainability in 2023. This figure rose to 48% in 2024.

Of those who have started, 44% are small businesses and 51% are medium-sized businesses. "One in two companies has already begun sustainability practices," wrote UOB Indonesia in the report cited on Tuesday (June 17, 2025).
