Magelang City's 2023 current price Gross Domestic Regional Product (PDRB) reached Rp10.98 trillion. This represents a 5.45% growth compared to the previous year's Rp10.07 trillion.
Compared to the COVID-19 pandemic year of 2020, the region's economic growth is significantly higher. At the end of 2020, post-COVID, growth was recorded at a decrease of 2.45%.
According to BPS (Statistics Indonesia) publications, with a total population of 128,150, the per capita PDRB is recorded at Rp89,910,000/capita/year. Nationally, this ranks 86th.
Of the 17 sectors driving the region's economy, the manufacturing industry is the leading sector.
The manufacturing sector ranks first, contributing the largest PDRB in 2023 with a value of Rp1.81 trillion, showing a 4.64% growth.
Second is the construction sector, growing by 3.22% to Rp1.79 trillion, followed by the wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles sector, which grew by 4.96% to Rp1.54 trillion.
Finally, rounding out the top five PDRB sectors in Magelang City is transportation and warehousing, valued at Rp872.74 billion. According to BPS, this sector grew by 4.32% over the past year from the previous year's Rp762.31 billion.

Based on its distribution, the main sector contributing the most to PDRB growth in Magelang City is construction, with a contribution of 15.11%. Other top five sectors include wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles; manufacturing; government administration, defense, and mandatory social security; and information and communication.
Sectors with the smallest distribution include Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries; Business Services; Electricity and Gas Supply; Water Supply; Waste Management, Waste and Recycling; and Mining and Quarrying.
