Electricity Tariffs Contributed the Largest Increase to Monthly Inflation in April 2025

According to the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) report, Indonesia experienced a monthly inflation rate of 1.17% in April 2025 (month-to-month/mtm).

"The monthly inflation rate in April 2025 is lower compared to the previous month (1.65%)," said BPS Deputy for Distribution and Service Statistics Pudji Ismartini in an online press conference on Friday (2/5/2025).

The monthly inflation in April 2025 was driven, among other factors, by an increase in electricity tariffs, contributing 0.97% (mtm) to inflation. This was due to the adjustment of electricity tariffs for post-paid customers, who returned to paying normal tariffs after the end of a 50% government discount.

Next, gold jewelry contributed 0.16% (mtm) to inflation. "The increase in gold jewelry inflation occurred in line with the increase in global gold prices," said Pudji.

Then, shallots contributed 0.06% (mtm) to inflation, red chilies 0.04% (mtm), and tomatoes 0.03% (mtm).

In April 2025, monthly inflation occurred in all provinces. The highest inflation occurred in West Sumatra with a rate of 1.77% (mtm), while the lowest inflation was in the Papua Mountains region at 0.90% (mtm).
