Economic Growth of Three Javanese Provinces Participating in the 2018 Regional Elections

Three provinces on the island of Java held simultaneous Regional Head Elections (Pilkada) on June 27, 2018: West Java, Central Java, and East Java. Based on data from the Central Bureau of Statistics, the economies of these three provinces grew in the first quarter of 2018, exceeding the national economic growth which only reached 5.06% compared to the same quarter in 2017 (YoY).

West Java's Regional Gross Domestic Product (PDRB) in the first quarter of 2018, measured at current prices, reached Rp 467 trillion, while at constant 2010 prices it grew by 6.02% to Rp 343 trillion. East Java's PDRB at current prices reached Rp 523.82 trillion, while at constant 2010 prices it grew by 5.5% to Rp 376.09 trillion. Central Java's PDRB at current prices amounted to Rp 310.64 trillion, while at constant 2010 prices it grew by 5.41% to Rp 228.72 trillion.

The 2018 simultaneous Pilkada in East Java involved two pairs of candidates: Khofifah Indar Parawansah-Emil Elistyanto Dardak and Saifullah Yusuf (Gus Ipul)-Puti Guntur Soekarno. The Pilkada in Central Java also involved two pairs of candidates: Ganjar Pranowo-Taj Yasin and Sudirman Said-Ida Fauziyah. The Pilkada in West Java involved four pairs of candidates: Ridwan Kamil-Uu Ruzhanul Ulum, Tubagus Hasanuuddin-Anton Charliyan, Sudrajat-Ahmad Syaikhu, and Deddy Mizwar-Dedi Mulyadi.
