The Indonesian Ministry of Finance (Kemenkeu) report shows that the state budget (APBN) in January 2023 recorded a surplus of Rp90.8 trillion, equivalent to 0.43% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

According to Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati, this surplus performance was significantly higher than January 2022's surplus of Rp29.6 trillion. This means a 207.1% increase in the APBN surplus in January 2023.

"Compared to last year, it's more than three times higher. This is a very high APBN surplus, especially compared to January 2021's deficit of Rp45.5 trillion," said Sri Mulyani at the APBN KITA conference on Wednesday (22/2/2023).

Sri Mulyani stated that the APBN surplus occurred because state revenue realization was higher than state expenditure.

State revenue realization in January 2023 was recorded at Rp232.2 trillion, growing by 48.1% (year on year/yoy). This value is higher than the state expenditure realization of Rp141.4 trillion, which grew by 11.2% (yoy).

With the surplus APBN performance, the primary balance in January 2023 reached Rp113.9 trillion, up 127.2% (yoy).

On the other hand, the realization of budget financing was recorded at Rp95.9 trillion, down 4,438.3% (yoy). "(Budget financing) is a very positive condition until the first month of 2023," said Sri Mulyani.
