Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), deflation in August 2023 reached 0.02% (month-to-month/mom). Pudji Ismartini, Deputy for Distribution and Service Statistics at BPS, stated that the deflation last month was triggered by the prices of food commodities.

Pudji also explained that shallots experienced deflation of 12.74% in August 2023. This shallot deflation occurred throughout Indonesia, with the most significant decline in Banyuwangi, reaching 39.11%.

This is consistent with the simultaneous major harvest in several regencies and cities that are major shallot production centers in Indonesia," said Pudji at a virtual press conference on Friday (September 1, 2023).

In addition, several other commodities contributed to deflation by 0.01%, such as fresh fish, household fuel (BBRT), and long beans.
