Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again Today, Ash Column Reaches 300 Meters High

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Wednesday (April 22, 2026) at 10:41 WITA. In the past week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 8 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column height reached 300 meters above the peak or 1,884 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be gray with moderate intensity towards the west. The eruption was recorded on the seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 2.9 millimeters and a duration of 104 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcanic activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level II (Warning). Earthquake observations on April 22, 2026 from 00:00 to 23:59 WITA showed 4 eruption/explosion earthquakes with amplitudes of 7.4-9.6 millimeters and durations of 67-267 seconds.

Then, 2 emission earthquakes with amplitudes of 4.4-7.4 millimeters and durations of 35-36 seconds, as well as 14 non-harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 2.9-4.4 millimeters and durations of 66-178 seconds.

PVMBG advises residents around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to carry out any activities within a 4-kilometer radius of the Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki eruption center.

Throughout 2026, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 1,605 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (845 eruptions) while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 40 times.
