Warning! Mount Ibu Erupts Again This Afternoon (Wednesday, July 10, 2024)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Wednesday (July 10, 2024) at 12:38 WIT. In the last week, Mount Ibu has erupted 16 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to be approximately 500 meters above the peak (1,825 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be white, gray to black with low to moderate intensity towards the southeast. The eruption of Mount Ibu was still ongoing at the time of this report.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Ibu is at Level III (Alert). Seismic observations on July 10, 2024, from 06:00 to 12:00 WIT showed 6 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 5-10 millimeters and durations of 72-140 seconds.

Then, there was 1 tremor with an amplitude of 10 millimeters and a duration of 42 seconds, and 1 harmonic tremor with an amplitude of 2 millimeters and a duration of 32 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to carry out activities within a 4-kilometer radius and a sectoral expansion of 5 kilometers towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

During 2024, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 1,563 volcanic eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (686 times), while Mount Ibu erupted 219 times.
