Alert! Mount Ibu Erupts Again This Afternoon (Friday, April 10, 2026)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Friday (April 10, 2026) at 1:07 PM WIT. In the past week, Mount Ibu has erupted 28 times.

Quoting eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column height reached None meters above the peak or None meters above sea level.

Eruption visuals were not observed. The eruption was recorded on the seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 28 millimeters and a duration of 55 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, Mount Ibu's activity level is at Level II (Alert). Seismic observations on April 10, 2026 from 00:00 to 23:59 WIT showed 111 eruption/explosion earthquakes with amplitudes of 15-28 millimeters and durations of 33-70 seconds.

Then, 1 emission earthquake with an amplitude of 10 millimeters and duration of 30 seconds, as well as 56 harmonic earthquakes with amplitudes of 2-28 millimeters and durations of 31-200 seconds.

PVMBG urges residents around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to carry out activities within a 2-kilometer radius and a 3.5-kilometer sectoral extension towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

In 2026, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 1,398 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java has the most eruptions (753 times) while Mount Ibu has erupted 518 times.
