Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again This Afternoon (Saturday, March 1, 2025)

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at 12:13 WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 48 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to reach None meters above the peak (None meters above sea level).

The eruption was not visually observed. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 29.6 millimeters and a duration of 50 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level III (Alert). Observations of seismic activity on March 1, 2025, from 06:00 to 12:00 WITA showed 2 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 5.9-37 millimeters and durations of 66-182 seconds.

Then, there were 7 tremor quakes with amplitudes of 2.9-14.8 millimeters and durations of 48-121 seconds, and 1 low-frequency quake with an amplitude of 4.4 millimeters and a duration of 30 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to conduct any activities within a 5-kilometer radius of the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and in the southwest-north-northeast sector up to 6 kilometers.

During 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 1,766 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (831 times), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 119 times.
