Warning! Mount Ibu Erupts Again Tonight (Tuesday, April 1, 2025)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at 9:00 PM WIT. In the last week, Mount Ibu has erupted 7 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column height reached 600 meters above the peak or 1,925 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the west. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 28 millimeters and a duration of 52 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, Mount Ibu's activity level is at Level III (Alert). Observations of seismic activity on April 1, 2025, from 6:00 AM to 12:00 PM WIT showed 30 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 12-28 millimeters and durations of 19-57 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 48 tremor quakes with amplitudes of 2-9 millimeters and durations of 18-38 seconds, and 3 harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 3-23 millimeters and durations of 48-89 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to engage in activities within a 4-kilometer radius and a 5-kilometer sectoral expansion towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

During 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 2,545 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (1,187 times), while Mount Ibu erupted 986 times.
