Mount Ili Lewotolok Erupts Again Tonight (Wednesday, February 19, 2025)

Mount Ili Lewotolok in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at 9:01 PM WITA. In the last week, Mount Ili Lewotolok has erupted 15 times.

According to eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to reach None meters above the peak or None meters above sea level.

The eruption was not visually observed. The eruption of Mount Ili Lewotolok was still ongoing at the time of this report.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Ili Lewotolok is at Level II (Alert). Seismic observations on February 19, 2025, from 00:00 to 23:59 WITA showed 15 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 15.6-32.7 millimeters and durations of 38-92 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 164 emission quakes with amplitudes of 1.3-24.1 millimeters and durations of 25-63 seconds, and 1 harmonic tremor with an amplitude of 3.9 millimeters and a duration of 128 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Ili Lewotolok, as well as visitors/climbers/tourists, not to enter or conduct activities within a 2-kilometer radius of the center of Mount Ili Lewotolok's activity, and that the residents of Lamatokan and Jontona villages should remain vigilant against the potential dangers of lava collapses/landslides from the eastern part of the peak/crater of Mount Ili Lewotolok.

During 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 1,406 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (697 times), while Mount Ili Lewotolok erupted 15 times.
