Mount Ibu Erupts Again Tonight (Friday, September 12, 2025)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Friday (12/9/2025) at 8:32 PM WIT. In the last week, Mount Ibu has erupted 24 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to be approximately None meters above the peak (None meters above sea level).

No visual eruption was observed. Mount Ibu''s eruption was still ongoing when this report was made.

According to MAGMA Indonesia''s volcano activity report, Mount Ibu''s activity level is at Level II (Alert). Seismicity observations on September 12, 2025, from 00:00-23:59 WIT showed 81 eruption earthquakes with amplitudes of 14-28 millimeters and durations of 29-78 seconds.

Furthermore, 6 exhalation earthquakes with amplitudes of 4-10 millimeters and durations of 32-49 seconds, and 19 harmonic earthquakes with amplitudes of 2-20 millimeters and durations of 37-159 seconds occurred.

PVMBG urges the public around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to engage in activities within a 2-kilometer radius and a sectoral expansion of 3.5 kilometers towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu''s active crater.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 6,066 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (2,433 times) while Mount Ibu erupted 2,226 times.
