Warning! Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again This Afternoon (Friday, March 21, 2025)

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Friday, March 21, 2025, at 2:13 PM WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 26 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column height reached None meters above the peak (None meters above sea level).

The eruption was not visually observed. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 48 millimeters and a duration of 61 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level IV (Alert). Seismic observations on March 21, 2025, from 6:00 AM to 12:00 PM WITA showed 9 instances of puffing earthquakes with amplitudes of 2.9-7.4 millimeters and durations of 35-60 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 4 harmonic earthquakes with amplitudes of 3.7-5.9 millimeters and durations of 20-215 seconds, and 1 low-frequency earthquake with an amplitude of 2.9 millimeters and a duration of 22 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to conduct any activities within a 7-kilometer radius of the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and in the southwest-north-northeast sector up to 8 kilometers.

During 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 2,342 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (1,066 eruptions), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 224 times.
