Life Expectancy of Yogyakarta Residents Increases by 0.05 Years in 2023

Life expectancy (LE) in Yogyakarta Special Region reached 75.12 years in 2023.

According to the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), the LE of Yogyakarta's population increased by 0.04 years (0.05%) compared to the 2022 LE of 75.08 years.

Meanwhile, in 2020 and 2021, the LE reached 74.99 and 75.04 years, respectively.

The LE of Yogyakarta's population tends to increase every year. In the last 5 years, the province's LE has increased by 0.3 years (0.4%).

BPS defines LE at birth as the average estimated number of years a person can live from birth.

LE represents the degree of health of a community, calculated from the results of population censuses and surveys.

LE is also one of the indicators of the Human Development Index (HDI) to measure the quality of life of the population in a region.

Low LE in certain areas must be followed by programs for health development, environmental health, adequate nutrition and calories, and poverty eradication.

Based on regencies/cities, Kulonprogo Regency has the highest LE at 75.29 years, while Bantul Regency has the lowest LE at 73.94 years.
