A survey by the Katadata Insight Center (KIC) and the Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo) reveals that a portion of the Indonesian public continues to spread false information or hoaxes. 11.9% of respondents admitted to spreading hoaxes in 2021.

This percentage increased from 11.2% the previous year. However, a significantly larger number of respondents claimed to have never spread false news or information.

88.1% of respondents stated they had never spread hoaxes. This figure, however, decreased from 88.8% the previous year.

The survey was conducted from October 4th to 24th, 2021, across 34 provinces and 514 regencies/cities in Indonesia. The methodology employed was multistage random sampling with a home visit technique, involving 10,000 respondents.

The margin of error for this survey is approximately 0.98%, with a 95% confidence level.
