Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again This Morning (Wednesday, September 25, 2024)

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at 09.26 WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 12 times.

According to eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the eruption was not visually observed. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 4.4 millimeters and a duration of 490 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level III (Alert). Observations of seismic activity on September 25, 2024, from 00.00 to 06.00 WITA showed 4 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 2.9-7.4 millimeters and durations of 161-603 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 4 tremor quakes with amplitudes of 2.9-29.6 millimeters and durations of 23-675 seconds, and 4 shallow volcanic quakes with amplitudes of 2.2-4.4 millimeters and durations of 10-13 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to conduct any activities within a 3-kilometer radius of the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and Mount Lewotobi Perempuan, and 4 kilometers in the northeast sector and 5 kilometers in the northeast sector from the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki.

During 2024, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 4,053 volcanic eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Ibu in North Maluku had the most eruptions (1,689 times), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 699 times.
