Warning! Mount Ili Lewotolok Erupts Again This Morning (Wednesday, February 4, 2026)

Mount Ili Lewotolok in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Wednesday (February 4, 2026) at 08:33 WITA. In the last week, Mount Ili Lewotolok has only erupted once.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column observed was approximately 200 meters above the peak (1,623 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be white to gray with moderate intensity towards the east. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 3.3 millimeters and a duration of 41 seconds.

According to MAGMA Indonesia's volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Ili Lewotolok is at Level III (Alert). Seismic observations on February 4, 2026, from 06:00-12:00 WITA showed 33 eruption/explosion earthquakes with amplitudes of 3.3-9.7 millimeters and durations of 36-68 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 49 exhalation earthquakes with amplitudes of 1.7-5.7 millimeters and durations of 28-58 seconds, and 2 distant tectonic earthquakes with amplitudes of 1.7-8.7 millimeters s-p 9.5 seconds and durations of 50-183 seconds.

PVMBG urges the public around Mount Ili Lewotolok as well as visitors/climbers/tourists not to enter and not to engage in activities within a 3-kilometer radius from the center of Mount Ili Lewotolok's activity.

Throughout 2026, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 463 volcano eruptions in all of Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java erupted the most (246 times) while Mount Ili Lewotolok erupted 21 times.
