Mount Semeru Erupts Again in the Early Hours of Today (Monday, March 24, 2025)

Mount Semeru in East Java erupted again on Monday, March 24, 2025, at 2:00 AM WIB. In the last week, Mount Semeru has erupted 14 times.

According to eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed at approximately None meters above the peak or None meters above sea level.

The eruption was not visually observed. The eruption of Mount Semeru is still ongoing at the time of this report.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Semeru is at Level II (Alert). Seismic observations on March 24, 2025, from 00:00 to 23:59 WIB showed 54 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 10-23 millimeters and durations of 61-176 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 2 pyroclastic flow quakes with amplitudes of 4-6 mm and durations of 56-86 seconds, and 12 tremor quakes with amplitudes of 3-8 millimeters and durations of 34-82 seconds.

PVMBG advises against any activity in the southeast sector along Besuk Kobokan, up to 8 kilometers from the peak (eruption center). Outside this distance, people should not engage in activities within 500 meters of the riverbank (riverbed) along Besuk Kobokan due to the potential for pyroclastic flow expansion and lava flows up to 13 kilometers from the peak.

During 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 2,378 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions with 1,092.
