Mount Ibu Erupts Again This Afternoon (Wednesday, October 29, 2025)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Wednesday (29/10/2025) at 13:56 WIT. In the last week, Mount Ibu has erupted 9 times.

According to eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the observed ash column reached 400 meters above the peak or 1,725 meters above sea level.

The observed ash column was gray with thick intensity towards the northeast. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 28 millimeters and a duration of 58 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Ibu is at Level II (Alert). Seismicity observations on October 29, 2025, from 00:00-23:59 WIT showed 6 eruption/explosion earthquakes with amplitudes of 15-28 millimeters and earthquake durations of 30-90 seconds.

Furthermore, there was 1 exhalation earthquake with an amplitude of 6 millimeters and an earthquake duration of 37 seconds, as well as 19 harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 2-8 millimeters and earthquake durations of 26-172 seconds.

PVMBG urged the public around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to carry out activities within a 2-kilometer radius and a sectoral expansion of 3.5 kilometers towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 6,817 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (2,704 times) while Mount Ibu erupted 2,454 times.
