Prevalence of Inadequate Food Consumption in South Sorong Increased by 7.93% in the Last 5 Years

Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the prevalence of undernourishment (PoU) in South Sorong Regency, West Papua Daya Province, was 28.34% in 2023.

This figure is down 12.53% from the previous year's 40.87%, while it has increased by 7.93% over the past five years.

The average PoU in Indonesia was 8.53% in 2023. This means that the PoU in South Sorong Regency is higher than the national average.

According to the National Food Agency (Bapanas), PoU is a condition where a person regularly consumes an insufficient amount of food to meet the energy needs for a normal, active, and healthy life. This indicator can be used as a tool to assess food and nutrition insecurity.

This means that the population in South Sorong Regency who consume food but whose energy needs are insufficient does not reach 28.34% of the total population.
