Prevalence of Inadequate Food Consumption in Barru Decreases by 3.61% in the Last Year

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reports that the prevalence of undernourishment (PoU) in Barru Regency, South Sulawesi, reached 8.2% in 2023.

This figure is down 3.61% from the previous year's 11.81%, while it has increased by 0.34% over the past 5 years.

The average PoU in Indonesia was 8.53% in 2023. This means that the PoU in Barru Regency is lower than the national average.

According to the National Food Agency (Bapanas), PoU is a condition where a person regularly consumes an insufficient amount of food to meet the energy needed for a normal, active, and healthy life. This indicator can be used as a tool to assess food and nutrition insecurity.

This means that the population in Barru Regency who consume food but lack sufficient energy intake does not reach 8.2% of the total population.
