Based on the SiPongi forest and land fire monitoring system from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (MoEF), monitoring over the last 24 hours detected 196 hotspots across Indonesia. This count decreased by 21 points compared to the prior period.

Data was obtained from Terra/Aqua, SNPP, and NOAA satellite imagery accessed on Friday (8/5/2026) at 11:34 WIB. Of the 196 detected hotspots: 4 had high confidence level, 180 medium confidence, 12 low confidence.

Hotspot confidence is divided into 3 tiers: low (0-29), medium (30-79), high (80-100). Higher hotspot confidence indicates greater probability of forest and land fires in the area.

The highest number of detected hotspots was recorded in East Java with 32 points, followed by East Kalimantan (27 points) and North Maluku (24 points).

13 hotspots were detected in East Nusa Tenggara, another 13 in West Java, while Central Java and South Kalimantan recorded 11 and 10 hotspots respectively.

A hotspot refers to a coordinate location with higher surface temperature than its surroundings; it does not equal the total number of fire incidents.

However, clustered and high volume hotspots indicate active forest and land fires. Satellite detected hotspot data remains the most effective method for monitoring wildfires over large territories.
