Warning! Mount Ibu Erupts Again This Morning (Thursday, March 20, 2025)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at 10:01 WIT. In the last week, Mount Ibu has erupted 21 times.

Citing eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to reach None meters above the peak or None meters above sea level.

The eruption was not visually observed. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 28 millimeters and a duration of 60 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, Mount Ibu's activity level is at Level III (Alert). Observations of seismic activity on March 20, 2025, from 00:00 to 06:00 WIT showed 23 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 15-28 millimeters and durations of 29-71 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 31 puffing quakes with amplitudes of 2-13 millimeters and durations of 18-59 seconds, and 6 harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 2-28 millimeters and durations of 43-245 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to engage in activities within a 4-kilometer radius and a 5-kilometer sectoral expansion towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

During 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 2,316 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (1,056 eruptions), while Mount Ibu erupted 923 times.
