Mount Ili Lewotolok Erupts Early Sunday Morning, Its Status is Alert

Mount Ili Lewotolok in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Sunday (August 10, 2025) at 01:20 WITA. In the last week, Mount Ili Lewotolok has erupted 19 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to be around 300 meters above the peak or 1,723 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be white to gray with thick intensity towards the west. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 35.8 millimeters and a duration of 54 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Ili Lewotolok is at Level III (Alert). Seismic observations on August 10, 2025, from 18:00-23:59 WITA showed 52 eruption/explosion earthquakes with amplitudes of 5.8-35.8 millimeters and durations of 38-43 seconds.

Then, 29 exhalation earthquakes with amplitudes of 1.6-7.8 millimeters and durations of 25-40 seconds, and 3 local tectonic earthquakes with amplitudes of 1.9-38.1 millimeters, s-p 4-5 seconds, and durations of 22-88 seconds.

PVMBG urges the public around Mount Ili Lewotolok as well as visitors/climbers/tourists not to enter and not to carry out activities within a 3-kilometer radius from the center of Mount Ili Lewotolok's activity, and to be aware of the potential danger from lava falls/landslides and pyroclastic clouds from the South and Southeast sectors, the West sector, and the Northeast sector of Mount Ili Lewotolok.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 5,538 volcano eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java erupted the most (2,212 times) while Mount Ili Lewotolok erupted 224 times.
