Data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded that the number of poor people in DKI Jakarta in March 2017 increased by 3,850 to 389,690 people compared to September 2016, which was 385,840 people. Consequently, the unemployment rate in the capital city also increased by 0.02 percent to 3.77 percent from 3.75 percent. Despite the increase, Jakarta's poverty rate remains the lowest compared to other provinces.
Meanwhile, Bali is recorded as the province with the second-lowest poverty rate at 4.25 percent, with the number of poor people reaching 180,130. South Kalimantan ranks third with a poverty rate of 4.73 percent and 193,920 poor people.
Of the 10 provinces with the lowest poverty rates in March 2017, all were below the national poverty rate of 10.64 percent. Eight provinces experienced an increase in the number of poor people, except for North Maluku and West Sumatra. Meanwhile, based on the number of poor people, nine provinces experienced an increase, except for West Sumatra, which recorded a decrease of 12,000 people.
