Alert! Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again This Afternoon (Tuesday, April 21, 2026)

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Tuesday (April 21, 2026) at 17:35 WITA. In the past week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted twice.

Quoting eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column height reached 1,000 meters above the peak (2,584 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be gray with moderate intensity moving westward. The eruption was recorded on the seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 7.4 millimeters and a duration of 116 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level II (Alert). Earthquake observations on April 21, 2026 from 00:00 to 23:59 WITA showed 1 harmonic earthquake with an amplitude of 3.7 millimeters and a duration of 56 seconds.

Then, 15 non-harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 2.9-7.4 millimeters and durations of 71-95 seconds, as well as 10 low-frequency earthquakes with amplitudes of 2.9-14.8 millimeters and durations of 23-30 seconds.

PVMBG advises residents around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to carry out any activities within a 4-kilometer radius of the Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki eruption center.

In 2026, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 1,592 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java has the most eruptions (843 times), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 34 times.
