Mount Ibu Erupts Again This Morning (Thursday, March 13, 2025)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at 06:36 WIT. In the last week, Mount Ibu has erupted 36 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column height reached 600 meters above the peak (1,925 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the southwest. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 26 millimeters and a duration of 69 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, Mount Ibu's activity level is at Level III (Alert). Seismic observations on March 13, 2025, from 18:00 to 23:59 WIT showed 18 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 11-28 millimeters and durations of 31-55 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 25 tremor quakes with amplitudes of 4-7 millimeters and durations of 21-32 seconds, and 3 harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 6-10 millimeters and durations of 49-115 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to engage in activities within a 4-kilometer radius and a 5-kilometer sectoral extension towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

During 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 2,122 volcanic eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (996 times), while Mount Ibu erupted 868 times.
