Generation Z women in Riau experience the highest rates of physical violence.

A survey by Indonesia's Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) shows that 6.02% of women aged 15-24 years, or Generation Z, in Riau experienced physical violence after the Covid-19 pandemic. This percentage is lower than the 7.23% recorded before the pandemic.

However, this proportion remains the highest compared to other age groups. No other age group of women in Riau experienced physical violence at a rate reaching 5%.

Specifically, 4.55% of women aged 25-34 in Riau experienced physical violence after the Covid-19 pandemic, down from 6.82% before the pandemic.

For women aged 35-44, the figure was 1.85% after the pandemic, down from 3.70% previously. Similarly, the percentage for women aged 45 and above decreased from 5.77% to 1.92%.

Overall, 3.73% of women in Riau experienced physical violence after the Covid-19 pandemic, down from 5.87% before the pandemic.

The most common form of physical violence experienced by women in Riau was being slapped or having something thrown at them that could cause injury. This accounted for 2.40% of cases after the Covid-19 pandemic.

The BPS conducted this online survey from June 8-30, 2021. While 918 female respondents in Riau participated, only 375 had complete data suitable for further analysis.
